UUMC History

University United Methodist--Forty years of ministry in the City of Irvine

One of the two oldest churches in the City of Irvine*, UUMC, has occupied the corner of Culver and University Drives since June of 1969. During its 40 year history UUMC has been led by a number of inspiring pastors.
On July 3, 2008, The Reverend Dr. Eric Smith became pastor of University UMC.

UUMC has always shared itself generously with the community. Elizabeth Ann Seton, the first Catholic Church in the city as well as Israel Academy, the first Jewish congregation, and the Assembly of God, all shared the church’s facilities when they were getting their start.

  • UUMC has provided meeting and program space for Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts, Campfire USA, Alcoholics Anonymous, Habitat for Humanity, as well as living space for homeless in connection with Interfaith Shelter.

  • Committed to Outreach, our members have participated in missions to Haiti, Costa Rica, Mexico, South Carolina and on Katrina Relief in the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

  • UUMC Youth have worked throughout the Southwest on Indian Reservations, missions and community centers in Houston and Dallas, and the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
